Tove Lo has been steadily building a sound for a number of years now. The Swedish singer and songwriter now has a recognizable signature that no one else really can replicate — and you can definitely tell when one of her compositions is being sung by someone else like Ellie Goulding, for example. And, all of that ascension has been building toward her incredibly promising sophomore studio LP, Lady Wood. The first track from the forthcoming set, “Cool Girl,” is a kiss-off to those who want her to be this laid-back ideal that doesn’t really exist. With the new album due next month, Tove Lo decided to take the track to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Delivering a passionate and sensual performance — certainly the kids from Stranger Things were not expecting that, but gotta grow up sometime — Tove Lo delivered in what’s already been a busy 2016 for her. Her duet with Nick Jonas, “Close,” from his album Last Year Was Complicated, was an enormous hit that went Platinum in a few short months. Her new LP only has one feature — with Wiz Khalifa — but there’s no doubt following this performance that she will bring that same contemplative and sultry vibe to the highly anticipated project.
