Watch Foo Fighters Send Off David Letterman In Classic Fashion With ‘Everlong’

It should come as no surprise that David Letterman’s favorite band, Foo Fighters, closed out his last episode with their hit, “Everlong.” The tuxedo-clad band tore the roof off the Ed Sullivan Theater for the last time on Wednesday night. It makes sense for the group to play this song, considering it’s Letterman’s favorite, one that he requested the band perform for his first show back after open-heart surgery.

Foos singer Dave Grohl has always been a fan of Letterman’s, telling Rolling Stone, “I grew up watching Letterman every night, religiously, in my bedroom in Springfield, Va.” Since performing after his open-heart surgery, the two Daves have developed a special bond together; Letterman helped get Grohl’s Sound City documentary off the ground, Foo Fighters performed multiple times, including a week long residency at the Ed Sullivan Theater, and they’re now giving Letterman the proper send off.

The touching “Everlong” montage included everything that made Dave great, from his first monologue to Drew Barrymore flashing him. Letterman will truly be missed by many in the comedy world, but he’ll also be missed by so many in the music community.
