And then there were four. After skipping Thursday night’s heated and sometimes absurd Michigan debate, Ben Carson has turned the rumors into truth – he has officially dropped out of the race for the GOP’s presidential nomination.

The lack of success on Super Tuesday was all the former neurosurgeon needed to accept that he just doesn’t have the support to topple frontrunner Donald Trump. So, it is with a presumably quiet tone that the man who was once shaking things up in the polls bids farewell to his supporters and the campaign trail, as he announced at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“Even though I might be leaving the campaign trail, you know there’s a lot of people who love me, they just won’t vote for me,” Carson said, smiling. “But I will still continue to be heavily involved in trying to save our nation.”

According to USA Today, Carson’s involvement will include urging more Christians to vote in this 2016 presidential election, but it’s safe to assume that Carson will be lured by the Trump campaign to follow in Chris Christie’s footsteps and offer an endorsement for the real estate mogul and reality TV personality. After all, Carson was the one candidate that seemed to have had a positive relationship with Trump, while the other remaining candidates spent Thursday night’s debate taking shots at Trump over everything from the class action lawsuit involving Trump University to Vladimir Putin’s alleged endorsement.

Could Carson perhaps help groom Trump to be a kinder, more rational candidate who focuses on the issues at the next several hundred GOP debates? Stranger miracles have occurred on this planet.
