Bernie Sanders Hints At Hillary Clinton Being ‘Condescending’ To Young Voters

The gloves are still off in the Democratic contest for the presidential nomination. While Bernie Sanders won his seventh consecutive primary in Wyoming on Saturday, Hillary Clinton still leads in the delegate count. This means a lot is riding on the April 19th New York primary, which has 291 delegates up for grabs.

Maybe this is why Sanders is doubling-down on the provocative rhetoric in New York. He did an outdoor interview in New York City with CNN’s Jake Tapper, where he essentially calls Clinton “condescending.” This is in response to Clinton’s charge that young people are being mislead into believing Sanders’ claims about Clinton taking money from the fossil fuel industry. Tapper quoted her as saying, “I feel sorry sometimes for the young people who believe this. They don’t do their own research.”

Sanders responds, “Well, I think that’s a little bit condescending.” He then rubs in his connection to young people a little bit, talking about how many of them come to his rallies, and compliments them on how engaged they are:

I think they do a whole lot of research. And I think that the Internet has opened up the opportunity for them to do a lot of research. And I’ll tell ya: One of the reasons I think we’re doing so well is a lot of those people are going to the Internet, and hearing what we have to say, and what Bernie Sanders believes in.

Here’s a young person at Sanders’ Coney Island rally on Sunday:
