I’ve long thought that David Letterman doesn’t get nearly enough credit for being an outstanding interviewer. It’s easy to not see it, I think, because he portrays himself as a clueless “dumb guy” most of the time, but some of the interviews he’s done over the years have been downright fascinating. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the subjects being interviewed, but still, the guy is pretty damn good and he deserves recognition for it.
With that said, I finally got a chance to watch his interview with Chaz Bono on last night’s “Late Show” and HOLY CRAP — it was honestly one of the more interesting things I’ve seen on network TV in a long time. I’ve often tried to imagine what living through a sexual identity crisis must be like for the people who are forced to live through them, and I doubt that I’ll ever be able to wrap my brain around it fully, but man did this shed some light on it all. A tip of the cap to Chaz Bono for being brave enough to be so brutally honest.
