The legend of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman appears to be continuing, as Reuters reported the sons of the imprisoned drug kingpin were responsible for an armed attack on a military convoy in Mexico on Friday. The attack was reported to be carried out in Culiacan, Mexico, which is the headquarters of the rival Sinaloa Cartel.

El Chapo’s story has had some twists and turns since he was recaptured earlier this year. And with him in captivity, his sons are starting to take his place in the national headlines. One of El Chapo’s adult sons, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, was captured by a rival cartel in August and his sons are thought to be behind Friday’s attack against Julio Ortiz. Ortiz is thought to be involved in a conflict involving El Chapo’s brother Aureliano Guzman and Alfredo Beltran, who is head of the Beltran Leyva cartel.

The attackers reportedly hurled grenades at the military convoy transporting Ortiz, which killed five soldiers dead and left 10 wounded, as reported by Reuters. It had not been reported whether Ortiz was a friend or foe of the attackers. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said justice would be brought to those who committed the attack. It has yet to be announced if Sean Penn is heading down to Mexico to cover the event in an ill-attempt at Gonzo journalism.
