It’s not uncommon to think about what you would do if the sh*t went down and you had to defend yourself from some bad guys. For this little boy, he didn’t even think, he just reacted, and fought off the bad guys with the object of his desire — a Yoshi plushie.

According to the boy’s father who spoke to the Washington Post, the robbers, who are still at large, burst into the Gamestop with guns drawn, and forced him and his wife to the ground near the checkout. The man, who is keeping his family’s identity secret for privacy, yelled for his son, who was on the other side of the store. One of the robbers grabbed the boy, seemingly to deliver him to the family, but the boy decided to not go quietly started slugging the masked man. “He punched him,” the dad said. “Two left hooks while holding the Yoshi doll.”

“I’m just grateful we were together, as a family, at that moment. It was a terrifying situation. You just want to grab them and hold them tight to you, and you want it to end, quickly.”

The boy’s father is sharing the story because he wants these men caught. “It’s important for me to be able to say to him: ‘They’re not going to do this to anyone else.’” The family talked about the scary incident that thankfully ended with no one hurt.

The Gamestop gave the boy the Yoshi doll, which he now carries around with him. “He feels like it’s being protected.” Or, his son is protecting Yoshi. Either way, this kid is one brave little guy. He would make the Mushroom Kingdom proud.
