Hillary Clinton Addresses The Latest Email Investigation: It’s ‘Imperative’ The FBI ‘Explain This Issue’

Between FBI Director James Comey’s revelation regarding the discovery of new emails, their connection to Anthony Weiner and subsequent media appearances by Trump surrogates, Hillary Clinton couldn’t avoid addressing the matter herself. Which she did late Friday at a short press conference attended by the pool of television, print and online reporters assigned to cover the Democratic nominee’s presidential campaign.

The brief presser lasted all of three minutes and 47 seconds, which was just enough time for Clinton to read an official statement and answer a few questions from her press detail:

“I have now seen Director Comey’s letter to congress. We are 11 days out from perhaps the most important national election of our lifetimes. Voting is already underway in our country, so the American people deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately. The director himself has said he doesn’t know if the emails referenced in his letter are significant or not. I’m confident whatever they are will not change the conclusion reached in July. Therefore it’s imperative that the bureau explain this issue in question, whatever it is, without any delay.”

When asked whether or not she and her staff had been contacted by Comey or anyone else affiliated with the investigation, Clinton said they had not. “First we knew about it is, I assume, when you knew about it,” she said. “We don’t know the facts, which is why we are calling on the FBI to release all the information that it has.”

As for what voters who were already unsure of whether or not they could trust Clinton given the ongoing email scandal, the Democratic nominee got right to the point. “I think people a long time ago made up their minds about the emails. I think that’s factored into what people think,” she concluded, “and now they’re choosing a president.”
