The fallout from Kathy Griffin’s universally despised photoshoot, in which she held the bloody decapitated head of Donald Trump, was immediate.
The comedian quickly apologized, writing, “I went too far,” but she was fired from CNN, her ad campaign was dropped by Squatty Potty, and the president tweeted, “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” During a press conference on Friday, an emotional Griffin, with lawyer Lisa Bloom at her side, admitted she thinks her career is over. “He broke me,” she said.
Here are some other highlights from Griffin’s press conference.
“I’m not afraid of Donald Trump. He’s a bully. I’ve dealt with older white guys trying to keep me down my whole life.”
“Regarding the image that I participated in, that apology absolutely stands. I feel horrible.”
“I’m gonna make fun of the president… I’m not going to threaten him. I have no desire to harm him.”
“I’ve had everybody turn on me and I just want to make people laugh… I screwed up.”
Griffin, who claims she’s been contacted by the Secret Service since the video was released on Tuesday, added, “If you don’t stand up, you get run over. What’s happening to me has never happened in this great country. A sitting president of the [United States is] personally trying to ruin my life forever.”
