The Knife Found On OJ Simpson’s Former Property Isn’t A Murder Weapon, Says LAPD

Even though it would make for one of the weirdest unintentional pop culture tie-ins of all time, the LAPD is saying that the knife found on OJ Simpson’s former Rockingham property is not the weapon used in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The fervor around the killings and subsequent OJ Simpson trial is picking up again more than 20 years after he was initially acquitted, due to things like the current FX Series The People vs. OJ Simpson and the upcoming ESPN documentary about Simpson’s life. The police finally confirming the murder weapon would almost have been too uncanny an occurrence.

According to reporting by BBC News and TMZ, the knife is now too degraded to pick up any DNA evidence that could have once been present on the weapon. In case you missed the actual discovery of the knife and early speculation that it could be related to the case, it was found by a former construction worker on the property, given to an off-duty police officer, and then eventually turned into the LAPD as possible new evidence. Most people assumed that the chances of finding any DNA evidence were slim to none, and even OJ apparently found the discovery funny, but even the remote possibility of new developments in the case were intriguing to think about for a few weeks. The case remains open, and OJ remains in jail. Those two facts also continue to remain completely unrelated to each other.
