Meet The Woman Who Got Rejected In Front Of An Entire Nation After The Boston Marathon

The only way that rejection can be any worse than it already is is if there are people watching. And the bad news for Barbara Tatge is that everyone’s watching her rom-com dreams fall apart right in front of her eyes.

It all started at the Boston Marathon, in which Tatge was running. On a dare from her daughter (that’s the new “my friend had my phone”), she stopped along the route and kissed a handsome man who was watching the runners go by. And then she fell in love. Since we live in a time in which anyone can be found on the internet, Tatge and her daughter started searching for the man with a photo of the kiss (taken as proof of the completed dare) as their wanted poster.

Here’s the kiss:

However, the man Tatge kissed is married. His wife was in the race and, after the photo went viral, she wrote Tatge a letter (while choosing to stay anonymous in the media):

“When this story aired on the news, we were pretty surprised,” the man’s wife wrote in a portion of the letter, which was given to the Wellesley Townsman. “For me, I’m not mad. Believe me, our friends have gotten a lot of mileage out of this story and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them give my husband grief!”

“While this may not be the ending that you had hoped for, that spontaneous, silly moment in Wellesley captured the fun, energy and spirit of the Boston Marathon. I greatly admire your spunk and courage and wish you many happy races in the future. Congratulations on your Boston finish!”

Tatge wrote the woman back thanking her for her graciousness, and while she’s appreciative of the attention she’s received, now she just wants it all gone. At least, that’s what she told the Wellesley Townsman:

“I’ve been surprised and overwhelmed with all the attention this simple story has gotten and would like it all to go away quietly, I really would,” Tatge told the Townsman Sunday. “In all sincerity, I apologize if the media firestorm has caused him any discomfort.”

There’s always next year!
