Remember when Chris Matthews was caught on a hot mic commenting lasciviously about Melania Trump and her “runway walk”? When that happened, Melania Trump’s spokesperson released a statement asserting that she was more than just her looks. “Melania Trump is an accomplished businesswoman and entrepreneur in her own right,” it said, before blasting the media’s “inaccuracies” about her. Now Mrs. Donald Trump herself has responded to Matthews’ comments with more of the same.
In a profile for DuJour magazine, Melania breaks her silence on Matthews’ comments, and she’s basically here to give him the brush-off:
“Unbelievable. That’s what I’m saying! I’m not only a beauty, I’m smart. I have brains. I’m intelligent.” She exhales, adding: “I would just say, Men will be men.”
One point in favor of Melania Trump’s intelligence? She doesn’t like all the retweeting Trump does, and actually said so while sitting next to him on The Today Show. And in terms of sexism, Matthews’ comments are relatively innocuous. If only that mic weren’t on!
DuJour doesn’t let go the “men will be men” comment, either. Because apparently — as this interview reminds us regarding an old Howard Stern interview — Mrs. Trump also says this when it comes to creepy comments Trump makes (“how do her breasts look?”) when asked if he would stay with her if she was disfigured in a car accident. He also apparently bellowed “where’s my supermodel?” in front of a crowd once. No wonder Melania is kind of like “whatever” when it comes to Chris Matthews, when her own husband is saying stuff like this about her.
