Meryl Streep Jokes That Her DNC Scream Sounded Like Someone Was Being Murdered

The Democratic National Convention had its fair share of celebrities on hand. Even former Bernie Sanders supporter Sarah Silverman threw her support behind Hillary Clinton and delivered her version of harsh reality to her like-minded voters. But one of the standout celebrity speakers during the DNC was Meryl Streep, who made her voice heard even for those in the way back. Streep took the stage and gave a rousing monologue about Clinton’s significance in the race and how she admired the presidential nominee:

“Hillary Clinton will be our first woman president, and she will be a great president, and she will be the first in a long line of women and men who serve with grit and grace. She’ll be the first, but she won’t be the last.”

Her speech was empowering, and she figures to be a major player during the campaign by questioning Donald Trump supporters along the way. But some were taken aback when she let out a warrior-esque scream at the beginning. Was she calling for others to get behind Clinton? Was she on cloud nine that a woman had finally been nominated as a presidential nominee? It seems she was just stoked to be there.

On Tuesday, Streep told George Stephanopoulos how she was completely caught up in the moment. And who wouldn’t have been? But she was a tad bit embarrassed how her scream “sounds like somebody’s being murdered.” It’s okay, Mer, with a filmography like yours, you can launch your Clinton battle cry whenever you see fit.
