A Missouri school district has condemned the actions of a group of students for their “insensitive” actions during a basketball game on Monday.
The act in question occurred at Warrensburg High School when a group of 20 students turned their backs to the opposing team (made up of mostly black students), with one student holding up a Trump sign. Facebook user Toniaa Nunn recorded the event and posted the video to her profile page, where she expressed an appalled reaction.
Psyching another team out is one thing, but Warrensburg Superintendent Scott Patrick told the Kansas City Star that the students turning their backs to the other team was “unsportsmanlike.” He also said that the addition of the Trump sign made the act insensitive and inappropriate. The school district condemned the act by the students:
“[Students] acted inappropriately and were insensitive toward our opponents…The Warrensburg R-VI School District does not condone these actions and apologizes to anyone who was offended by the actions of these students. We will do everything we can to keep incidents like this from happening again.”
There have been no reports whether the students will be facing any punishment for the act.
