Would Susan Sarandon Rather Gamble On A Trump ‘Revolution’ Than Vote For Clinton?

Progressive activist Susan Sarandon has made no secret of her preference for Bernie Sanders in the current Democratic race. She even shut down a crazy Sanders rumor at the Nevada caucus while confronting a Hillary Clinton supporter who was making waves. The Oscar winner feels strongly about Sanders and carries such high disregard for Clinton that she’s considering voting for Donald Trump if Sanders doesn’t sway those superdelegates and secure the nomination. With this sentiment, she’s causing more of a ruckus than her SAG’s “overexposure” could ever manage.

Sarandon paid a visit to Chris Hayes on MSNBC to discuss wanting to be “on the right side of history.” She doesn’t trust Clinton and lists a number of reasons — lack of support for $15 minimum wage, hawkish foreign policy (with Henry Kissinger’s endorsement), accepting money from shady sources (including fracking firms and Wall Street) — as reasons to abandon the Democrats if need be. Whereas she sees Sanders as a truth teller and proponent of true change, which she feels is sorely needed:

“It’s dangerous to think we can continue the way we are with the militarized police force, with the death penalty and the low minimum wage and threats to women’s rights and think you can’t do something huge to turn that around. The country is not in good shape if you’re in the middle class. It’s disappearing.”

Sarandon believes many Democrats feel the same way she does and would be willing to disregard Clinton and take their chances on Trump, who will at least bring a “revolution” of some sort instead of sticking with the status quo:

“I don’t know, I’m going to see what happens. You know, some people think Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately. If he gets in then things will really, you know, explode.”

One can assume that Sarandon is being hyperbolic, sort of the same way that people say they’ll move out of the country if an election doesn’t go their way. She can’t stomach voting for Clinton, but could she truly pull the lever for Trump instead? This reaction tidily sums things up on Twitter.

Some also feel that Sarandon hasn’t fully considered how her stance would affect the Democratic party.
