Donald Trump Celebrates Brexit While Still Managing To Blame Obama And Clinton

By pure coincidence, Donald Trump touched down in Scotland just as the United Kingdom was waking up to early morning Brexit chaos. He did so, officially, to pop his name on a recent acquisition, the Trump Turnberry golf course. And he delivered a surreal speech that emphasizes his initial reaction to the Brexit results. Trump’s first tweet on the subject illustrated a level of foreign policy expertise that we’ve come to expect. Trump believes that Scotland voted in favor of leaving the European Union when all 32 authorities within the country really voted to stay. He’s also thrilled.

Trump must not have paid attention to his Twitter replies or encountered a benevolent adviser before his golf course press conference. He sang praises of these “great” voters deciding “to take their country back.” He hopes this happens all over the world and especially in the United States. Trump hasn’t done his research, which is frightening to witness from someone who could become U.S. president. And the most bizarre part of Trump’s celebration of the Brexit victory is how he’s somehow blaming President Obama and Hillary Clinton. He thinks Obama meddled too much and caused people to ignore his recommendation:

“He is constantly dictating to the world what they should do. The world doesn’t listen to him, obviously. You can see that from the vote. I actually think his recommendation … caused it to fail. I was actually very surprised that President Obama would’ve come over here and he would have been so bold as to tell the people over here what to do. And I think that a lot of people don’t like him, and a lot of people voted — if he had not said it, I think the result might have been different. I thought it was inappropriate.”

As for Clinton, Trump thinks she’s simply parroting Obama:

“She always misreads everything, if you think. She’s misread this. The only reason she did it is because Obama wanted it. If Obama wanted it the other way, if he said ‘Leave,’ she would have said ‘Leave.’ She does whatever he wants her to do … And obviously, for the 219th time, they were wrong. They’re always wrong. And that’s the problem with them.”

Trump continued with his wild and rambling speech, which spanned the course of 40 minutes. He feels that Obama tried to hold back a “really positive force” that voted Brexit out of the union. Trump waved away questions from reporters on how the “leave” vote has sent the world into immediate economic turmoil. He’s not worried about those effects, but this is a man who’s filed for business-related bankruptcy protection four times.

Also on Friday morning, Obama put an impartial spin on his Brexit reaction. he emphasized the “enduring” bond between the U.S. and the U.K. while also praising America’s relationship with the European Union. Obama has yet to respond to Trump’s statements today, but here’s the Turnberry speech in full.
