Donald Trump Takes A Pop At GOP Leadership Ahead Of Tonight’s Crucial Debate

Donald Trump travels in defiance. That’s a big part of his schtick. With a sizable portion of Republicans making a public point of condemning and/or unendorsing the presidential contender, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Trump is voicing his unhappiness with the party’s bigwigs at the moment.

In a tweet not sent at 3am, Trump took a pop at the GOP stating: “Tremendous support (except for some Republican “leadership”). Thank you.” Tweeting out criticism of your party’s top brass is certainly a bold move ahead of what’s being forecast as a crucial debate for the candidate tonight. Trump also laid into “self-righteous hypocrites” this morning, which seems like an alley-oop for cable news as they have hours of pre-game to fill.

“So many self-righteous hypocrites,” tweeted Trump. “Watch their poll numbers – and elections – go down!”

Outlets like the Washington Post and USA Today (not to mention our Alyssa Fiske here at UPROXX) have presented the possibility that Trump — looking to deflect from his own current mess — is looking to evoke Bill Clinton’s past scandals as part of tonight’s debate. If that’s the case, we may have a showing that’s more controversial than the last one.
