Donald Trump hasn’t been known to take a jab lightly, so it’s no surprise that Michael Bloomberg’s speech at the Democratic convention has gotten under the Republican nominee’s skin. Now these two billionaires, who were once golf pals, are now at odds in this strange election.

The former New York City mayor was already a notable choice for the DNC, since he has been registered as a Democrat, Republican, and Independent at various times during his life. But he gave a pretty hard hitting speech calling Trump a “dangerous demagogue,” and delivered a scathing passage at the end:

“I’m a New Yorker, and I know a con when I see one. I understand the appeal of a businessman president, but a Donald Trump business plan is a disaster in the making…The bottom line is: Trump is a risky, reckless, and radical choice, and we can’t afford to make that choice.”

Naturally Trump was not having any of this and took to his prolific Twitter account to voice his displeasure:

During an Iowa campaign stop, Trump even went as far to say he would throw down one negative DNC speaker, although Bloomberg was not mentioned by name: “I was going to hit one guy, in particular a very little guy. I was going to hit this guy so hard his head would spin. He wouldn’t know what the hell happened.” Verbal fisticuffs on the campaign trail are nothing new, but at one time, Trump and Bloomberg seemed to be buddies. Trump even believed Bloomberg was doing a bang up job as mayor during his 11-year tenure, despite what his recent tweets have stated:

Exactly why this relationship has splintered off shall remain a mystery. CNN thinks it could be because Bloomberg was mulling a third party run for president this year, or it could have been when Trump called out Bloomberg’s worth — which is an astounding $36.5 billion, compared to Trump’s claimed $10 billion (which many dispute as wildly inflated). That has to hurt.
