AEW’s Kenny Omega Will Wrestle Fénix For The AAA Mega Championship

So far, the partnership between All Elite Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA has produced almost entirely tag team wrestling matches. Next month, however, we’ll see the first AAA vs. AEW match when Kenny Omega challenges Fénix for the AAA Mega Championship at Heroes Inmortales on October 19.

Aside from the appearance of Faby Apache in the women’s Casino Battle Royal at All Out, the AAA-AEW alliance has led to Cody teaming up with Cain Velasquez and Psycho Clown, a series of matches for the AAA World Tag Team Championship between the Lucha Brothers and the Young Bucks, and a pair of trios matches of the Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. the Bros and Laredo Kid. It was after the second of these six-man tags, at Triplemanía, that Omega laid out his challenge to Fénix, which the luchador accepted.

This second-ever match between these two wrestlers (and Omega’s second-ever in Mexico) is the latest to be announced in a series of international, inter-promotional matches and appearances by The Cleaner. He recently toured with OWE, wrestling at an event in Singapore, teaming up with Riho for a tag match in Taiwan, and making his first public appearance in Japan since January when he showed up unannounced at an OWE show there. He’s also scheduled to return to DDT, his original home promotion in Japan and now a partner company of AEW, for the first time in five years for Ultimate Party on November 3.
