Bret Hart Explained Why He Can’t Yet Call Himself Cancer-Free

Earlier this week, an understandably positive Jim Ross mentioned in a radio interview that WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart had won his battle with prostate cancer and was now officially cancer-free. A few people were like, “Is that how cancer works?” but when you get good news like that, you try not to ask too many questions.

Hart himself took to Facebook today to clarify the conversation he had with JR, mentioning that while he did have a successful surgery, he won’t officially be in the clear for a while:

“I was made aware of the comments Jim Ross made on a recent radio interview. I just want to clarify that, while the surgery went well and my doctors and I are optimistic, it is still way too early to declare that it’s now a non-issue. I will be monitored every 3 months over the next couple of years as there is a possibility that the cancer can come back. It will be a while before I can say I’m cancer free.”

That’s still really good news, of course, it’s just the more cautious way to phrase it. Bret is on the road to recovery and doing everything he can to make sure he is and stays cancer-free. That means he’s winning, and that’s all we need to know.
