The Legal Drama Between The Hardys And Impact Wrestling Isn’t OVAH

Well, we probably should have known it was too good to be true. Word came out a couple weeks ago that WWE was working with Impact Wrestling to purchase the rights to the “Broken Hardys” gimmick. The news was a very welcome turnaround from the news that Impact was planning on lawyering up and trademarking the Broken Universe characters, and we were looking forward to a time when the two companies didn’t have any more problems than usual, and the words “Brother Nero” were free to be bandied about on WWE TV.

Well, the dream is dead … at least for the moment.

PWInsider reports that Impact filed for new trademarks on April 28 for “Broken Matt,” “Brother Nero,” Vanguard-1″ and “Broken Brilliance.” This comes a full two months after Matt Hardy filed for his own trademarks on those same items. The trademark applications are being taken as a sign that Impact is covering their bases for a potential legal battle.

In case you were thinking that the Hardys would be pretty displeased by this turn of events … you are super correct.

I’m personally going to keep my fingers crossed that this is just a bump in the road and that WWE and Impact can still come to an agreement, and soon.
