The New Smackdown On Fox Commercial Features Stone Cold, The Rock, And An RKO On A Mannequin

Fox

WWE Smackdown‘s move to Fox is coming up in just over a month on October 4, and the advertising campaign has begun. While the first Fox ad for the blue brand focused on present-day WWE stars, a new one released today sells the show through Superstars of the past and present and how fans connect with them. Check it out:

The ad shows a diverse group of people being huge wrestling nerds in their everyday life. A waiter at a fancy restaurant is inspired to break glass by seeing “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. A surgeon does a John Cena taunt to an unconscious patient. A little girl does a Becky Lynch pose after getting a word right in a spelling bee. A woman does a sick RKO on a mannequin in a department store.

There are also appearances by and references to Kofi Kingston, Charlotte Flair, The Undertaker, The Rock (who Fox reportedly wants to get on their first episode of Smackdown), Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Ric Flair, Roman Reigns, and Rey Mysterio, plus a splash through a table and some Fox cross-promotion in the form of a Gordon Ramsay clip.

Overall, the angle of the commercial seems to be: look, lots of people enjoy and are inspired by WWE, and it highlights the dorky fun of being a wrestling fan.
