205 Live’s New General Manager Is A Former Impact Star With A Ridiculous New Name

WWE Network

A lot of names had been thrown out as possible General Managers for WWE’s 205 Live, from Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio to Dean Malenko and Vickie Guerrero, but Daniel Bryan’s final choice is even more surprising: Former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Rockstar Spud, now going by the name “Drake Maverick.” No, that’s not an alter ego of Doug Funnie, that’s his actual WWE name.

Maverick (not Mel Gibson) was introduced as GM at the top of this week’s 205 Live, and quickly announced a 16-man single elimination tournament to crown a new WWE Cruiserweight Champion. The finals of the tournament will be held on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania 34, and hopefully the winner will have an easier time than previous champions as of late.

Check out the debut below:

First round matches on the episode included Gran Metalik vs. Cedric Alexander, and former WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate making his 205 Live debut against former Cruiserweight Champion TJP.

Pretty funny to see both EC3 and Rockstar Spud pop up on WWE TV over the past few days, and even funnier that Drake Maverick ostensibly made the “main roster” while EC3’s on NXT. Fingers crossed that they run into each other sooner rather than later.
