Terry Funk Gave An Emotional Farewell Speech To Fans At The ECW Arena

Tommy Dreamer’s House of Hardcore promotion has been racking up acclaim from fans and has been doing very well as an independent promotion, occasionally running out of the legendary ECW Arena and booking big indie names and former WWE Superstars alike. Over the weekend, Tommy Dreamer was supposed to have Hall of Famer and ECW legend Terry Funk in his corner for a match against “Broken” Matt Hardy.

Unfortunately, according to PWInsider, Funk was unable to be in Dreamer’s corner due to dizziness related to “serious health issues.” At the end of the event, however, Dreamer invited Funk to the ring to say a few words, at Funk’s insistence, as you can see in the video above. Funk then passionately (which is the only way he does anything) told the fans what they and what the ECW Arena means to him.

“You know, I want you all to listen to me. I don’t want to leave here tonight. I don’t want to get out of this damn ring. I want to stay in it. Because I know if I get out of here or go out of here, I won’t be back. But I want you to know that it was important for me that I have my people — Tommy and all of these guys that I’ve been around, up here. They’re my family; You know who else is family, is you guys out there. That’s enough of all this serious crap. I’m tired of being so serious about getting out of here. I love each and every one of you. You’re the greatest. You’re the greatest fans in the world.”

Funk apparently disobeyed doctor’s orders by getting into the ring to deliver his speech, but it was clear nothing was going to stop him. Here’s hoping Funk feels better soon and that this isn’t the last time we see him in that arena or that ring.
