The WWE Rematch Between Bill Goldberg And Brock Lesnar Is Officially On

Ever since Bill Goldberg was announced as the pre-order exclusive and big marketing gimmick for WWE 2K17, speculation has been running rampant that he would be making his long-awaited return to the ring. Goldberg helped fan the flames of those rumors all summer long, saying he has plenty of matches left in him and insisting that the match he really wanted was a WrestleMania XX rematch against Brock Lesnar.

Jim Ross reported a short while ago that his sources told him the Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg match had already been signed for Survivor Series, but when Goldberg appeared on ESPN this past week, he appeared to hedge a little. Still, he told SportsCenter host Jonathan Coachman that he wanted that match against Lesnar. On Monday night’s episode of Raw, WWE did away with all the pretense and (more or less) announced that the match is going to happen.

Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman, appeared on Raw to address Goldberg’s comments and officially challenged Goldberg to a match “anytime, anywhere.” A short while later, Goldberg confirmed via Twitter that he will appear on Raw next week to formally answer (read: accept) the challenge.

The most likely time for that match to take place would indeed be Survivor Series, as the next Raw pay-per-view, Hell in a Cell, is only a few weeks away, and WWE would be expected to want to build this marquee matchup for a lot longer than that.
