The New Day, Triple H, And Stephanie McMahon Have A WWE-Themed Lip Sync Battle On ‘The Tonight Show’

In honor of the 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and the New Day stopped by The Tonight Show for a WWE tag-team lip sync battle. Jimmy Fallon attempted to make the entire contest about “bragging rights,” but McMahon was having none of it and decided to up the ante by having Fallon show up to Barclays Center on Monday if he lost. This was the planned outcome, of course, so Fallon’s loss was always going to happen and the mythology of Lip Sync Battle has been crushed forever. Kayfabe is dead!

Anyway, the battle itself is a little different than the one we have seen on the show in the past. Going by tag-team rules, each side chooses two songs and the wheel of fate makes the performance decision. For Fallon and his partners, The New Day, it was down to Phil Collins and Boyz II Men. If you are dying to see New Day performing some choice cuts from No Jacket Required, you’ll have to keep waiting. They took on “Motownphilly” and killed it in the process.

Triple H and Stephanie countered with a choice between Metallica’s “Seek And Destroy” and “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. The latter wins — possibly a tiny new chapter in Triple H’s long-running rivalry with The Rock — and we’re treated to 14-time world champion surprising everybody with his performance.

Triple H walks away with another victory, Fallon will be at the Raw anniversary on Monday, and no one was put through a table this time around. That’s what you’d call a successful promotional appearance.
