As he continues on his path to the release of his new LP, Common debuts a pure and cool new cut titled “Red Wine.” Karriem Riggins laces Com with a soothing, mellow arrangement as Elena Pinderhughes plays flute and Syd of The Internet adds in her soft vocals. It’s all to set the stage for Common’s verse, which he manages to pack with references to his old friends back home, shows signs of his heightened social awareness and drops gems about his maturation.Even with all of the seriousness, he still manages to slide in a lighthearted reference to the awards show missed opportunity with Oprah (“On a plane drinking wine with Oprah / When I missed the dap I ain’t mean to insult her”).

It’s all part of the growth that’s going into Black America Again. “The project is an album, a piece of art.” he told us back in June while speaking on his upcoming eleventh full length project. “It’s all about inspiration. The music has heart. It’s got socio-political aspects to it. It’s God music.”

“Red Wine” is one of two album tracks featuring Syd as she’s also included on another cut called “A Bigger Picture Called Free.” Check the Black America Again tracklist here and place a pre-order on iTunes in advance of the November 4th release.
