Does Drake Releasing An Old Kanye Collab Point Toward A Joint Album?

Drake really took it back to the October’s Very Own blog posts days here. Seemingly out of nowhere, the song “You Know, You Know” showed up on his YouTube channel similar to how the guys behind the owl used to share tracks in the wee hours of the morning before he became the 6 God.

The song’s technically not new since it’s been floating around the web since 2010, as SPIN notes. It’s just now we have an official release for the Kanye West collab. The date puts “You Know, You Know” as part of the Thank Me Later era, back when Drake was still at least somewhat concerned with the type of fire that the backpack set would applaud. Safe to say he makes his mark with lines like “I made it but I’m still playin’ like I’m bein’ scouted til I’m out it / Game time bitch, I hope you’re proud of us /King James shit watch me throw the powder up.” It helps a lot that Kanye goes keyboard crazy on the production to create a dazzling sound that makes Drake’s zingers connect with that much more force.

Now, the question becomes, could releasing “You Know…” now be a sign the joint album could really be on the way? The idea’s been talked about and Drake even dropped a hint about it back in April. “We were supposed to do a mixtape together or an album together,” he told Zane Lowe during their interview. “Maybe we’ll get that done.” It doesn’t help that he made mention of the project at OVO Fest a couple of weeks ago.

Sure, that’s a big “maybe” since both guys keep pretty busy schedules these days. But, just maybe digging up a leftover like “You Know…” now and releasing it in a relatively quiet manner was their way of giving a soft warning of what’s to come, hopefully sooner rather than later.
