Future’s ‘Mask Off’ Video Has All The Makings Of A Cinematic Epic

Future’s “Mask Off” is perhaps the best song from his self-titled album released this past February. It spawned numerous #MaskOff challenges to make us appreciate the legit musicians in our lives. It also rocketed to unforseen heights on the Billboard chart, becoming the highest charting single of his career. Yes, even higher than the masterpiece that is “March Madness.” Now Future’s biggest single is about to get a fiery new video thanks to Colin Tilley. Judging from the initial trailer, it may very well be one of the few music videos from rappers that live up to that hyperbolic “movie” claim.

The jump in Future’s videography over the past three months hasn’t gone unnoticed. First came Charlie’s Angels approach to “Draco”, one of FUTURE‘s highlight tracks. After that was “Use Me,” in which Future tore up a diner with plenty of belly-aching effect to school a young man who had joined him. Then there was “My Collection”, which doubled as a dig at his ex-fianceé and plenty of NSFW models.

Based solely on the brief 20-second trailer delivered by director Colin Tilley is opting for a more brooding, action packed approach for “Mask Off.” Flames and a charred car come into frame the second the video starts. From there, there are flashes of Future, a scantily clad woman walking away from view and ultimately, the man himself pulling off a mask of what appears to be his likeness and image. Tilley and company probably took a glance at the colorfulness and panache of “Draco” and decided to slap a coat of angst and menace on it.
