Ever since Colin Kaepernick took a stand against police brutality by refusing to stand during the National Anthem at the 49ers/Packers preseason game, people have been coming out of the woodwork with both criticism (good luck trying to parse Drew Brees’ logic there) and an outpouring of messages in support of his calm, collected act of protest.
Recently, U.S. Women’s National Team and Seattle Reign FC midfielder Megan Rapinoe took a knee during the anthem at her match yesterday to support Kaepernick — who clarified that he won’t stand for the anthem while there are “bodies in the street” — and President Obama has also been supportive of the quarterback’s protest.
Last night, Kaepernick also got a look from the rap community, when J. Cole performed wearing his jersey. Additionally, Trey Songz also wore a 49ers jersey emblazoned with the QB’s number in a recent performance.

It’s nice to see the hip-hop community rallying around Colin. It’s also worth noting that a whole group of veterans — a group often invoked by conservatives demanding “respect” in situations like this — have organized under the hashtag #VeteransFor Kaepernick to support his decision to sit out the anthem. Fans have spoken for themselves, too, by buying Kaepernick’s jersey in droves. You can buy one here if you’re so inclined.
