Kanye West’s ‘Fade’ Video Is Really All About Teyana Taylor And That’s Perfectly Okay

Tonight may be all about the videos that have kept our attention throughout the year, Kanye West used the evening to debut his next visual he hopes will keep our attention for the next 365. His latest piece of art is for “Fade,” the third single from The Life of Pablo. Instead of going the controversial route he’s traveled previously, West opted to remove himself and the song’s featured guests, Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone, and relied on his G.O.O.D. Music Teyana Taylor to own the clip.

Taylor’s widely known for her dance moves and her post-baby bod has been marveled at in many a Twitter conversation. She put both to work in a Flashdance-like piece of performance art where her energy matched the song’s pulsating grooves for the full three minutes. The conclusion’s riddling as the camera shoots a close up of Taylor and her fiancé and Cavs guard Iman Shumpert…and Teyana’s face resembles that of a cat. Quite odd, but, again, that’s why Kanye’s videos are “art” in the first place. They’re conversation pieces that create dialogue long after the images on the screen and song are done playing.
