Meek Mill and his family are experiencing a personal tragedy after his young cousin was killed in Philadelphia. The 21-year-old was one of five people murdered in the city during a day’s time.
Angelo “Lo” Colon was shot in the head in South Philadelphia late Monday night, according to a report by NBC 10. A second man was also wounded in the gunfire but survived his injuries. At this time, details are scarce but Meek did take to Instagram to share the sad news with his followers as he and his family grieve the loss of life.
“Damn Lo! Watching my family die to these philly streets!” he wrote. “Probation is the only thing that got me tied to come coming back here so frequent!! My mission is to save my family from these streets and change the mindframe of all my lil cousins growing up in it!!!! #RIPLO hurt me to see you in this same spot lifeless!”
Colon’s death was the final one in a deadly day in Philly. It began when a 25-year-old man was shot around 9 A.M. The recent rash of killings brought the city’s number of homicides up to a total of 203, an 11% increase from the 181 figure reported at the same time in 2015.
The incident comes just weeks after NBA star Dwyane Wade’s cousin was gunned down in their Chicago hometown and singer Janelle Monae’s cousin was killed in her hometown of Kansas City. Sadly, this third death reinforces the fact that no amount of fame and fortune can make celebrities immune to the increasing violence occurring across the country.
