T.I. Explains Why He Protested Trump’s Victory

T.I. was among the many protesters taking to the streets to express their displeasure over Donald Trump‘s election win. In an interview with TMZ, he explained that he was spurred into action by his children.

“Myself personally, I just wanted to be able to look my kids in the eyes and tell them that I did everything that the Institution allows me to do,” he said.

When asked about his biggest fear of the Trump presidency, T.I. pointed out that white supremacists and other bigots will feel emboldened by the victory of a candidate who ran largely on a platform of racial grievance.

“The dark, cornered, racist white supremacists and oppressors… feel that they now have a spokesperson,” he said. “That can be dangerous.”

T.I. has become more and more openly political throughout 2016. Following a rant against Donald Trump earlier this year, he encouraged the president-elect’s supporters to not buy his music. Since then, he’s released an entire EP of protest songs called Us or Else and called out his fellow celebrities for not supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. With the election of Trump to the country’s highest office, it’s doubtful we’ve heard the last of T.I.’s socially conscious side.
