Vic Mensa Spits The Truth On His ‘5 Fingers Of Death’ Freestyle

The thing about beef is that it can serve as an unnecessary distraction. Vic Mensa’s learning that the hard way since right now his one-sided feud with Chance The Rapper seems to be the main focus of conversation. Not how good There’s Alot Going On is or just the simple fact that he’s a highly capable young MC with a lot to say that’s worth hearing. Recently, he was a guest on Sway in the Morning and he took the customary “5 Fingers of Death Freestyle” challenge in which he proceeded to dissect each beat with ease while hitting on topical moments like the recent Orlando nightclub attacks, his distaste for pigs, and, of course, the concept of beef.

“I don’t wanna talk about no beef
I don’t like pork and I don’t like police
They’d rather I don’t speak than to hear a black man speak his mind
But I’m a Rap Genius, you gotta read between the lines
Uh, I guess I’m playin’ with they heads now, just to make sure that they don’t forget
I let ’em argue all day in the barber shop ’bout who’s the best MCs
Kendrick, Cole and Vic, please
Don’t let ’em distract you with the nonsense
Uh, when did art turn into content?
I’m still in Chicago, I’ve been the king
I ain’t never had to leave to get a ring on some Lebron shit”

I’ve heard it mentioned that the supposed tiff between the two SaveMoney guys could all be for theater, an idea which Mensa alludes to here. Let’s hope that’s the case because it’s wack to think that two guys who came up together in a small circle couldn’t find a way to make their relationship work now given the fact they’ve reached career peaks. Also, the idea of even engaging in a fake beef wasn’t all that entertaining when Curtis and Kanye did it years ago and nothing’s changed years later.
