Azealia Banks releases her “ATM Jam” in full, only a few days removed from debuting it in Glastonbury. On the chorus, there’s Pharrell speaking the refrain about “racks racks racks” but I can’t figure out what his presence adds (aside from additional draw to the billing).

As many times as we’ve said Pharrell’s name in recent months, I’ve yet to hear that one home run that makes me feel like P’s back to being the musical trendsetter we’ve all known him to be. Perhaps I should be more specific and say I’ve yet to hear a rap song of his that blew me away because “Get Lucky” is a jam, “Blurred Lines” is winning and his Despicable Me 2 soundtrack work is jovial. But what I’m missing is the Star Trek beauty that accompanied his Midas touch over the years.

Longing for the past is futile. But, I’d still give anything to see a full CRS project of any size or shape materialize. To hear a Star Trek track on par with “Grindin’,” “Milkshake,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” or “Like A Boss.” But minus former Neptunes partner Chad, all we get is…a lot of falsetto crooning, which isn’t satisfying enough.

For the record, “ATM Jam” will be featured on Ms. Banks forthcoming debut album Broke With Expensive Taste.
