Mixtape Royalty: DJ Neil Armstrong’s “Original – All Out King” Commemorative Box Set

Most of DJ Neil Armstrong’s career success can be traced to one point: his Original mixtape. The first edition featured Neil seamlessly blending classic Hip-Hop tracks with the samples they were based around. Since then, the New York impresario has been consistently dropping follow-up editions of Originals and another series, All Out King, which takes a similar conceptual approach but expands the originals to include music from Punk, Rock and other genres. To celebrate a decade-long run, the Star Wars-loving turntable Jedi has released the 10 Year Anniversary Original box set.

Packaged to perfection in an embossed gift box, the commemorative set includes all three previous Original mixes – Original, 2 Original, and Nonstop – Original Live – on a custom USB as well as an actual cassette tape of the OG and artwork for each. However, fans don’t only get polished copies of old material because the box set also exclusively debuts Neil’s newest and final installment of the All Out King series, Original – All Out King.

Sticking with the same formula that’s taken him this far, Armstrong does not disappoint with this finale, but instead educates. Taking listeners on a cut-up journey from the upbringing of Hip-Hop all the way up to the present day – going coast to coast and then coming back home to NY – this is a comprehensive trip to hip the youngin’s on their history and remind old-heads of the times when music meant more. Splicing together everything from East Flatbush Projects to A$AP Rocky with vinyl versions (yes, warm, dusty vinyl) of their sampled foundations, Original – All Out King has something for everyone and proves why Neil is indeed an All Out King of the Original mixtape formula.

If you’re looking to zone out on classics, learn the breaks and support the talented Mr. Armstrong, head over his official website and order a part of history. You may want to hurry though, because Neil says there are only a handful of these collector’s items left and that’s currently the only way you’ll hear the flawless Original – All Out King. But, if you want to preview the goods first, check out a few samples below, as well as footage of Neil breaking down the finer points of the box set’s packaging.
