Lauryn Hill’s tax woes just got real today after she plead guilty for failure to pay taxes on over $1.5 million she earned between 2005 to 2007. Appearing in a New Jersey courtroom, Hill was asked if anyone had forced her to plead guilty, to which she responded “Directly, no, but indirectly, yes.” and her attorney, Nathan Hockman, asserted the government came after his client because of her celebrity.

Lauryn’s sentencing will take place in late November and she faces up to three years in prison — one year per count — and as much as $75,000 in fines. Judge Michael Shipp also ordered the Fugees singer to undergo mental health counseling as instructed during pre-trial intervention services.
