Whether preordained or not, it appears that LeBron James is responsible for TDE C.E.O. Top Dawg unleashing Kendrick Lamar’s newest album untitled unmastered. onto the world this week. It was his random nudge on Twitter that seemingly got the TDE locomotive churning and now, a few weeks after LeBron’s public request that Top Dawg “release those untitled tracks asap!!!,” we have those tracks and then some.

Before his Friday night game against the Washington Wizards, LeBron spoke to the media and not only claimed responsibility for the album’s release, but revealed that he and K.Dot are “really close.”

“(We) admire each other’s work and each other’s craft,” LeBron told reporters. “And even with him being all the way on the West Coast and me being here, we share a lot of qualities, being around the same age.”

James wasn’t done there, either, calling the album “great” and noting, “They said to thank me. So, appreciate it. You’re welcome.” Eventually. he shared a video of himself listening to the album on Instagram, as well as links to buy untitled on Twitter earlier in the day. Must be nice to have the pull to convince one of the biggest artists in the world to release music at your request.
