Back in April, Tribeca Film Festival-goers were treated to a documentary on Illmatic. And, praise be to documentary makers One9 and Erik Parker, Time Is Illmatic with rave reviews. Which is awesome, because the documentary’s officially getting a nationwide release.

Per MTV, the documentary is getting distributed through New York-based film company Tribeca Films. No official date is set, but expect the movie to be released simultaneously in select theaters, on DVD and on demand in October.

There are also talks of Nas accompanying screenings of the flick with live performances of Illmatic, similar to the treatment he gave crowds when the film premiered at Tribeca. Going out on a limb here, but unless you live in New York City or Los Angeles, your chances of witnessing such a performance seem slim. Unless he goes on an Illmatic film tour; that would be rad.

However you get to see the documentary, rejoice. It’s good to have nice things. ICYMI the first time around, watch the doc’s trailer below.
