Plugged Crown Headphones 101

Words By Marky Mark

I go through too many headphones. It’s customary while I spend a lot of time commuting and need my stereotypical east coast music to prove I’m a stereotypical east coast cat. I like my boom bap to have some kick to it and Plugged’s Crown headphones provide so much kick, it’s like walking around with a car stereo on your head.

First off, these are comfortable headphones. That’s not to say they’re the most comfortable ever, but they do fit snug on your head with a nice cushion on the ears. I’m not an audiophile by any means, and this is actually the first time I’ve ever typed the word, much less spelled it. However, everything sounds crisp through them.

King Push’s Darkest Before Dawn provided the perfect testing ground to see what Plugged had in store for me. They didn’t disappoint. In fact, these headphones are probably the reason “Crutches, Crosses, Caskets” is my favorite song of the year. The bass rumbles, the snares pierce and they make the menace in his voice sound like a personal threat. There’s something about being completely engulfed in whatever you’re listening too and these headphones took me to wherever Pusha wanted me to go.

There’s an 800 lb. gorilla in the room, but yes, they’re better than a pair of Beats. At least my pair. I can’t speak for the Solo 2 model, but Plugged’s Crown pair is easily better than Beats Solo. They’re more comfortable, don’t feel as cheap, and the noise cancelling feels more effective as well.

Riding the subway after work can be a bit of a mess with people screaming at the top of their lungs and kids being kids. And, no matter what day it is, there’s always someone trying to be Radio Raheem; playing their music without headphones because of course we all asked to listen. These headphones cancel all of that out.

In Plugged’s world, it’s just you and your music. And you’re not going to have to sell your sneakers to get a pair either. They’re $99 and well worth the purchase if you’re in the market for a new pair. They come in black/gold or white/gold colorways along with cables for iOS and Android devices.
