As someone who fancies himself a Civil Rights Movement era enthusiast (not an expert), big, big, big, big kudos to Rapsody for the title and artwork decided upon for her latest single.

“Betty Shabazz” is the brainchild of a 9th Wonder production and Rap’s raps and set to be featured on Jamla Is The Sound dropping January 28. Miss her or anyone familiar with her music as “dope for a female MC” because you’re only pigeonholing the discussion. Rapsody’s talented enough to carry herself in any cypher, on any song or on any platform with any artist viewed as a “lyricist” and more than hold her own. In some cases, outshine them, too.

Nevertheless, the record titled after Malcolm’s ol’ lady is simply another example of such coupled with a similar militant and fearless mindset Mrs. Shabazz employed during her time on Earth. Take some time to learn about Mrs. Betty while we’re on the topic. She truly is one of the more interesting and lesser discussed figures of that time.
