One of the big mainstream gripes with Rihanna’s “Work” when it was released earlier this month was the Bajan singer’s use of Jamaican patois in the song’s lyrics. Many blasted Rihanna on social media for “mumbling gibberish” and calling it a record, while certain publications called “Work” “gibberish filled madness.” Madness! Well, for their delicate sensibilities, there’s British singer Samantha Harvey to make sense of Rihanna’s audio nonsense.

The YouTube singer is gaining some attention for her “whitewashed” cover of Rihanna’s dancehall jam because she turned the popular hit into Starbucks music material. Completely stripping the Caribbean sound of the record, Samantha re-works “Work” with nothing but a piano and her airy vocals. Lyrics get changed from patois heard on the original to the Queen’s English, making it “easier to understand,” according to YouTube and Facebook comments praising the cover.
