During a surprise press conference over the weekend, New England Patriots coach/grumpypants Bill Belichick blamed “atmospheric conditions” for the lower-than-required air pressure in his team’s confiscated #DeflateGate footballs.

While Bill Nye (a certified Science Guy!) was skeptical, Boston’s finest scientists were ready to anoint Belichick the next big thing in physics:

Four of the Boston area’s best scientific minds, zeroing in on the controversy over the Patriots’ use of underinflated footballs, agreed: If you take a ball from a warm place to a cool place, it will lose air pressure.

“Professor Belichick got it exactly right,” said Richard P. Binzel, professor of planetary science at MIT, referring to the Patriots’ coach, Bill Belichick.

But not so fast, says world famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson:

Unless the Patriots’ balls were inflated in the team’s sauna, it looks like yet another hole has been poked in Belichick’s explanation.
