Please Do Yourself A Favor And Watch The Spurs’ Delightfully Weird Music Video

The Spurs decided it was a good idea to have Matt Bonner, Patty Mills, Aron Baynes and Kawhi Leonard make a music video that is so 80s that it hurts. The band, obviously, is called Spuran Spuran and the song is called “Spurs.” All of this makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of the NBA, which is a sports league that once had a slightly inflated Raptors mascot rollerblading.

The NBA doesn’t need to do things like this. It already has dunks and LeBron James and stuff. But the NBA keeps doing things like this because the NBA is good at being weird and fun.

None of this has anything to do with basketball which is precisely why it is so great. Why wouldn’t an NBA team form a synth pop band and create a music video? As the prophet John Locke once said in Lost, “don’t tell me what I can’t do.” The Spurs are the reigning NBA champs, and they’re pretty much allowed to do anything they want. I hope that Spuran Spuran goes on a world tour. I hear they’re already big in Japan.
