Losing Game 7 of the Conference Semifinals has got to be tough for Clippers point guard Chris Paul. He’s known mainly for his killer instinct and relentless drive, and, like all supreme athletes, he absolutely hates to lose, so much so that he often comes off as a prickly SOB on the court.

But he did lose, shamefully, after his team went up 3-1 on the Rockets in the series. It was just the ninth time an NBA team has come back from a 3-1 deficit to take a playoff series. Paul’s effort as the captain wasn’t enough, and he reflected on that with a quote from Will Ferrell’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

That’s a bittersweet way to handle another crushing loss for Paul, who will probably ponder his fate as the Clippers look to regroup with their core… or maybe blow it all up. Either way, it seems like the time for good humor has passed by Clipper Nation.
