This Baseball Team’s Extreme Shift Is Completely Ridiculous And Illegal

With the advent of analytics and advanced video scouting, baseball leagues across the globe become more intelligent and creative in their strategic tactics. Different variations of the shift have grown extreme over the years, but one team in a Korean league took the infield shift to a new level.

The Kia Tigers—Kia’s brand is everywhere—placed their third baseman behind home plate in the ninth inning of their game against the KT Wiz. The umpire would have none of that. He ordered the Tigers’ third baseman to go back to his place within fair territory. Deadspin pointed out that the MLB does not allow players to stand outside of fair territory. The same rule likely exists in this Korean league.
