After ESPN’s Outside The Lines dropped a publicity bombshell on Hope Solo on the eve of the USWNT’s first game in the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the first aggrieved group to speak up and demand the goalie apologize is… police officers?

TMZ is reporting that two police advocacy organizations, the Major Cities Chiefs Association and the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, have taken exception to Solo’s alleged conduct once she was in police custody following a domestic dispute between her, her half-sister and her nephew in June of last year. Among the comments were threats — “if the handcuffs we’re off, I’d beat your ass” — homophobia, and gloating about her wealth.

Both organizations’ statements appear to be solicited by TMZ, and it also bears mentioning that the tones of their statements were of sadness and disappointment rather than anger. The MCCA statement read, in part, “It’s so unfortunate that someone of [Hope’s] stature would berate a police officer. Though, it’s uncommon.”

Solo, of course, has not commented on this latest round of attention her arrest has received, as she’s with the U.S. Women’s National Team, which is preparing to start its World Cup at 7:30 p.m. EST on Monday evening.
