Florida State’s President Threw Atomic Fire At Marco Rubio For Talkin’ ‘Bout The Noles

If you’re not familiar with Marco Rubio, he is a United States senator from Florida who wants to be the Republican Party’s nominee for the office of President of the United States. He is also a well-documented football fan and his alma mater is the University of Florida, so he is a big fan of Gators football. As such, he’s not a big fan of Florida State, which is something he made known during a radio interview in Iowa last week.

Here’s his full quote:

“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State. I think there has to be a school where people that can’t get into Florida can go to college. And that’s why we have Florida State.”

If you’d like to listen, here’s a link (the quote starts around the 2:07 mark). It’s pretty obvious Rubio said this in jest – he did give FSU some credit, complimenting the team’s advantage over UF these last few years both on the field and in recruiting – but that didn’t matter, because he made a lot of Seminoles fans really, really mad. Most notably, Rubio angered FSU’s president, John Thrasher, who threw some serious shade at the presidential hopeful.

Rubio is currently polling at seven percent among likely Republican voters, according to the most recent Washington Post/ABC News poll. That mark puts him in a tie for fourth place among people seeking the party’s nomination, and puts him 26 percentage points behind Donald Trump.

Maybe this will teach Rubio to think twice before he starts talkin’ ’bout the Noles.
