Domonic Brown’s Crash Into The Stands Led To This Improbable Inside-The-Park Home Run

Very little seems to be going wrong for the New York Mets these days. With a month left to go in the season, they’ve managed to build a comfortable 6.5-game lead on the Washington Nationals in the NL East. On a season built mostly on their excellent pitching staff, as well as a handful of guys who have swung the bat well, sometimes it’s equally important to simply be a little lucky.

Such was the case in the bottom of the second inning against the Phillies on Wednesday night, when Ruben Tejada hit a line-drive down the right-field line that was quickly dropping for a hit. Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown chased it, but, unfortunately for him, he wasn’t able to make the grab. His forward-momentum then carried him over the wall, head-over-cleats, and into the stands in foul territory.

From there, Tejada was off to the races. With no other Phillies fielder in the vicinity of the ball as it shot into the right-field corner, Tejada was able to cruise around the bases for a relatively easy inside-the-park home run without a relay throw to the plate.

After the play, Brown was able to stand up on his own, but would eventually leave the game in the fourth inning with concerns about a possible concussion. He will see a specialist on Thursday.

The Mets went on to win the game 9-4, taking two of three in the series. After an off-day, they head to Miami for a weekend series beginning on Friday.
