This week has been “Shaq Week” on NBA TV, celebrating the lengthy and colorful career of one Shaquille O’Neal. A hallmark of Shaq’s post-playing career is the feature “Shaqtin’ A Fool,” highlighting some of the NBA’s worst bloopers and blunders. The Sacramento Kings have been featured more than a few times, so it’s only right that they got in on the fun of “Shaq Week” by introducing “Reverse Shaqtin’ A Fool” and showcasing some of Shaq’s funniest gaffes.
The best of the bunch might be Shaq’s ill-fated alley-oop while he was with the Boston Celtics. This was not the Shaq of the Lakers or Magic, effortlessly exploding to the rim and finishing every alley-oop in sight, but the older, grounded Shaq, who might have struggled to clear a minor bump in the road. And Shaq didn’t just miss the slam – that alone wouldn’t be that funny. No, he full-on gets stuffed by the rim and unceremoniously tumbles to the ground, taking poor Kwame Brown with him. Ever the showman, Shaq took a moment to recover and gave Kwame a nice hug.
The 3-point attempt was understandable because it was in an All-Star game, and missing free throws was never exactly a rare occurrence for Shaq. Blowing an alley-oop, though, and in such spectacular fashion, is definitely worthy of a spot on “Shaqtin’ A Fool.”
